GARNELL W. WHITFIELD JR. CHESS TOURNAMENT 2011



Buffalo Fire Commissioner, Garnell W. Whitfield, Jr., will host and present inconjuction with The Archangel 8 Chess Academy, an Open Rated, U.S.C.F. Chess Tournament on Saturday, April 16, 2011 in the Main Place Mall, Upper Level, 390 Main Street, Buffalo, NY. Pizza and refreshments provided to all tournament players.

Commissioner Garnell W. Whitfield, Jr. will be present to help The East High Dark Knights Chess Team raise funds for the 2011 USCF National Scholastic K-12 Championships, held in Nashville, TN on April 29th to May 1, 2011. The Dark Knights will have $5.00 Raffle tickets available for purchase. 1st Prize - $150 Gasoline Card, 2nd Prize - $100 GameStop Gift Card and 3rd Prize $50 Cash, Individual donations of $20 and Business donations of $100.

The Tournament will have four sections of play; OPEN - U1500 - K-12 Scholastic and Unrated Urban Queens. Open and U1500 players must report by 9:15am. Games will start at 9:45am, 11:30am, 1:15pm and 3pm.

The format for the Open & U1500 section, will be 4 rounds, Swiss, USCF Rated, Game 50. In the K-12 Scholastic(USCF Rated) and Urban Queens (Unrated)Section, the format will be 5 rounds, Game 30, Swiss, players must report by 10:30am, Games start at 11am.

Advance discounted entry fees are Open and U1500 is $25 or $35 Cash at the door, K-12 and Urban Queens entry fees are $10 or $15 Cash at the door.

Pictured are the NEW - 2011 Fabius Pompey Upstate New York Scholastic K-12 Champions. The Buffalo Golden Knights travelled to Fabius Pompey on Sunday, April 3, 2011 and won the K-12 section, earned Third Place in the K-4 section. Top K-12 Honor Trophies were awarded to Joshua A. Hampton, Jr at East High School who had a perfect 4-0 but lost in a tiebreaking 5 minute game, Trevor D. Cohn, student at Kenmore Middle earned 3rd Place, Top K-6 Honor Trophy awarded to James W. Lyon, student at St. Peter and Paul School in Hamburg New York., Top K-4 Medal honors was awarded to Ethan P. Robinson, George M. Southard in Lockport NY. The other Golden Knights team members were Karin Nilsson from Lockport, Anna Nilsson from Lockport, Ruby Soudant from Olmstead #64, Laura E. Cohn, Lindbergh Elementary, Isabelle W. Longfellow - City Honors School, and Corey K. Spencer from North Park Middle in Lockport.

Buffalo Top 10 Battle for Title "CHESS CHAMPION 2007"

Buffalo's Top 10 chess players will assemble this Saturday, June 9th and June 10th, 2007 at Buffalo State College Student Union, 1300 Elmwood Avenue, Buffalo, NY.

Five Rounds beginning on Saturday at 9:30am, 1pm and 4:30pm, Sunday matches are 11am and the Finals at 2:30pm. 5 Rounds, Swiss format, Game 90, Four sections are
OPEN, U1800, U1400 and U1000.

Buffalo's Chess Champion will receive $200, the Mayor's Cup, 10 USCF Grand Prix points, and the Title "Buffalo Chess Champion 2007". 2nd Place will receive $100.
